—and in Westchester, New York, it's every
kid's dream summer-camp experience. You can fly high into the air on the trampoline, walk on a wire six feet above the ground, ride a cycle that has only one wheel, play catch with five balls and just your two hands, or twirl your body gracefully in the air while suspended from an ankle loop. Sound exciting? It is, and our campers have been loving it since 1989.
Circus Arts Camp LLC (CAC) is a professional day camp for students ages 7 and up (entering second grade or higher in September). Well known in the area, we have been operating in Westchester County, New York, for 18 years. Formerly held at SUNY Purchase, CAC has moved to the state-of-the-art, air-conditioned gyms at the Upper School campus of Solomon Schechter School of Westchester in Hartsdale, New York, with easy access to the Taconic State Parkway, Interstate 287, and other major arteries. CAC draws participants from upper and lower Westchester, as well as Connecticut, Rockland, and Manhattan.
This program is dedicated to teaching children how to be creative, confident, and safe, while ensuring lots of fun! Kids experience hands-on the principle that creating a circus act—a team—requires cooperation, discipline, focus, and determination. Campers are inspired to encourage one another to succeed, to develop awareness for the safety of each team member, and to compete only with themselves. Circus Arts Camp is for
fun-lovers, adventurers, students with an artistic penchant as well as those seeking to develop their athletic abilities. Such a dynamic mix of campers allows for interaction with peers whose interests are diverse, and permits a child to benefit from others' strengths, while enhancing the group with his or her own talents.
The camp's international network of experienced professional educators comes together each summer to offer quality circus arts instruction in a safe and supportive environment. Children learn acrobatics, clowning, balancing skills, juggling, equilibristics, rolla bolla, trapeze, Spanish web, fabric, trampoline, stilt-walking, tightwire, unicycling, and more. Each summer the camp offers consecutive two-week sessions, and each of those sessions culminates in an unforgettable live circus show.
Our curriculum strives to refine both physical and presentation skills in all our campers, bringing them together in a closing performance that challenges, as well as showcases, each student's level of accomplishment. Team building, lasting friendships, and an increase in self-esteem are the natural outcomes of this cooperative effort, and every individual is allowed to shine.
